Anyone doing it?. I know it's a while away but I saw it somewhere and thought it looked quite fun. Goes past like 9 lochs, if you're a loch-fan.
if it climbs from aberfoyle upto loch katrine, thats a cracking climb
helmets only mind.
How might we get there? It would be a nice place to ride and it's cheap, but getting there in time could be a problem unless we enlist drivers.
Train? But then the two bikes per train nonsense would probably scupper that. Could stay over night before, maybe you'd get cheapo accommodation in the uni halls, although it's still term time. Saying that, Stirling has different terms.
It's not in Stirling though, it's Aberfoyle.
This ride encompasses some of my favourite roads. I'll be there and have room for 2 or 3 others in the car.
I might be tempted for a geared ride.
Ah right, cars will probably be the case. Do you think it would need to be geared? I'm thinking about doing the medium route as I'll be pretty busy not being on the bike in the preceding weeks. Also, I only have one bike.
It probably will be decent enough to be done fixed.
you could do that fixed, the hills would be slow but it'd be a nice ride.
I'll probably do it geared if euan and rusty are
Yeah. I do things like this geared. Right tool for the job and all that. If you don't have gears, it shouldn't be too bad.
I think my knees have just about recovered from the 100 miles fixed, which in retrospect I should have done in a lower gear and higher cadence. I'll Bikely the route later and get a elevation profile. I think maybe if it was on a Saturday I would do it, but going into work on a Monday with heavy legs isn't fun.
I wonder if it is closed road, the helmets required rule says they have public liability insurance.
I really like the sound of this. Would be doing it fixed. A spot in a car would be great, I am car-less.

It's only 65 miles ffs. A perfect Sunday ride. Heavy legs is something you have to live with (although 65 miles on gears isn't going to be that bad on the legs).

There's always a space in the death wagon for you.
Bonzai! Thanks.
krakow:Bonzai! Thanks.
If you insist on paying me I'd rather a full-sized tree than a miniature one.

I'm talking about doing the 65+ miles fixed with decent hills and the resulting effects of that.

Waste of time. That's what gears are for.
Hmm. I think I'd probably go back to singlespeed for a bit of freewheelin fun on the hills. I'll see though.
I would be up for that as well. This pretty much looks like a shorter version of the trossachs Ton in June. great roads. doable fixed, but much faster geared, and easier on the knees. I am in the rusty camp on this one. I will drive if I go.
Rusty, still up for this? I've been watching videos of Dukes Pass and it looks fun.
Aye. I'd totally forgotten about it.
I shall definitely do this, as I can't do the etape Caledonia due to uni stuff.
This looks good actually. I might be up for it if I can get the day off work. Any room left in the car?

I think it's just me and euan in the car but krakow might also be in there. I'll take the Golf and I'll take a bike rack so 4 should easily fit in the car.

Nice one. I'll find out today if/when I'm needed in work on the Sunday.
I'm up for doing the 45 or 65 (geared), just have to confirm with the boss.
I have a 3 bike rack so can take +2 in the Black Beauty.
Would be a good chance to meet a few of you guys...
Roll call?
Just a reminder as well, I think this might be a helmet only affair.
i'll probably be dead with an epic hangover
It definitely is helmet only. Better give it a polish before you leave.

I can't see the route direction on the map but I've been round this a few times. The road from Aberfoyle out through Kinlochard is a stunning run. It does go uphill as you hit Loch Conn and starts rolling fairly heavily which me be a pain on a fixed gear. When you get to the road end at Loch Arklet you head down hill to Loch Katrine and then it gets really heavy going along the north shore of Katrine. Gears are a must here I'd say unless you want to be spinning out on the flat and unclipping on the way down.
You've also got the Dukes Pass at some point in the day and that's like a mini version of the Crow Road, short and sharp going north or long and steady going south.
I'm doing the run around Katrine a week on Sunday with a mate who lives in Aberfoyle if anyone fancies a trial run at it.
This is on the coming Sunday though so that'd not really be a trial run. I might be up for it anyway. I need to get some miles in my legs.
I may head up for this although I will not be officially entering. I am not paying Mr Evans a single penny to ride on public roads!

so it is, I never saw that.
I'm off for the Saturday but working Sunday, so I am out of this one.

Hmmm. I think I'm going to not be doing this one. Haven't done anything like any kind of preparation because of my stupid dissertation. Was thinking of doing the 20 mile one but then there's not really much point paying the same entry fee and doing less. Shame.
working sunday so out. would have been nice. cold but nice
Having second thoughts due to this weather. If it's nice on the day I might pop up though...
Looks like it's cancelled folks:

Scotland Event Cancelled
The weather hasn't improved and with more heavy snow forecast for the next few days we've had to make the decision to cancel this weekend's event that was due to run at the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in Stirling.
Both the Saturday MTB ride and the Sunday road sportive are cancelled
The Duke's Pass road that runs through QE Forest Park is closed which has been a big factor in deciding that it's just not safe or practical to try and run the event.
If you pre-entered and have already paid we'll be in touch once Dean get's back from Scotland.
Ah well. That's a bit of a bummer.
you can get blootered now rusty
Joshvegas:you can get blootered now rusty
This is true. Fantastic!
