I have no personal issue with you criticizing, if that's even what you were doing, I was just having a bit of banter, but.... I'll lay this down nice and straight for you, I really couldn't give a shit if you wave at me, or anyone for that matter. The anti-trend card has been played to death so please don't think you're coming across as some kind of refreshing paragon of virtue by playing it. Oh, and that last little paragraph of sarcasm/satire might have been funny if you hadn't raped the English language in the process of writing it. Next time you type some off the cuff rant about hippies and someone has a pop at you over it don't take it so seriously and start slating everyone.

You're an arrogant twat. If you manage to even half speak German, Italian or French on a level as I do English, chapeaux, but if not, get fucking lost. Perhaps I should come to one of your fixed whatevers and tell you my view in person.

beans, i don't think you understand.

the fixed gear trend, with all these "trendy" people... has been the BEST thing for fixed gear riders and the industry. It puts more money back towards bike companies and bike shops during financially difficult times. It gives bike manufacturers the money to build new products and ideas. This also drives prices down and increases competition between manufacturers.. which is so healthy for the buyer.

someone riding around botanic gardens on a fixed gear with all the parts.. wearing trendy clothes.. shouldnt annoy you. It should make you happy that another person has invested money in the sport you love.

Let me clarify? If I don't "half speak" German, Italian and French as well as you speak English I should "get fucking lost"? Is that the point you are now trying to make, aside from me being a dangerous waving hippy and a fixie fashionista? Seriously blahd, you're taking this shit way too seriously. Veiled threats of violence even, that's a king-hell bastard of an internet winner if ever I saw one. I commend your multi-lingual capabilities though, seriously, it is an ability to be respected. As you are evidently a man of the world, I'll ask you to look over our little to and fro here and outline how the irony of you calling me arrogant could escape even someone with a fairly tenuous grasp of any language. I have many failings, I'll provide you with a list including examples if you like (I can't speak Esperanto or Athabaskan for instance), but arrogance is not one of them. What I find funniest about this whole thing is that if I met you in Sleazy's or perhaps Mono, I don't doubt we would get on famously... unless you were wearing jack boots and a swastika, which is pretty much how far you'd have to take it for me to write your character off before meeting personally. As it stands I'll leave this here, I have no wish to turn this thread into a keyboard war. I hope that at some point you'll realise this was all a bit of banter taken a bit too seriously and there was no real hard feeling but if you want to brood about it- well then I guess that's fine too. Maybe we'll meet at some juncture and have the opportunity to laugh about this, or perhaps glass each-other in a good-natured joust, your call.

    Selah.

Me and Rabsda cycled up Ventoux today in the ultimate fashion statement. My bike isn't my only means of transport but it's the one I choose if I'm going into town or commuting to uni. I don't think there's one person (except maybe euan, have you seen that stem!) on this forum who uses their fixie as a fashion statement.

That stem on the Bob is the sexiest thing on the whole thing. You know it. I had to get something better than a Pearl, now if only I could get some DA aero bars. Those are rare as fuck.

And another thing, I was just catching up on the last few pages and was wondering why some members of the forum (not pointing the finger at anyone) bother to post on here if they never have any desire to come on any rides with the group. It is about community after all. The great thing about gfgss is that within a few weeks of arriving in Glasgow I was able to meet up and go for a few decent rides with a good bunch of guys who are welcoming and friendly. Isn't that what it's all about!

As for the waving thing. When I drove across Australia east to west coast everyone waves from their cars. I think its great especially seeing you only would see a car every half hour. That's the same as bikes you might only see a few about but when someone is friendly to you it makes the ride far nicer. I couldn't believe this guy a few weeks back on his orange (freewheel) pull up next to me and totally snobbed me off when I gave him a friendly nod. People with that mentality deserve to be on rollers in their lounge room watching some shite on tv.

Aye, I can't understand an anti acknowledgement stance, in any cycling I have done people greet each other, even if it's just a finger off the bars and a slight nod, or full on banter half way up a trail - what's wrong with recognising other people who share your interest? Even a few full on roadies give me a nod when I'm out on my hipster bike, risers and MTB trousers...

it's great to get a bit of chat with someone on a long ride. 7 hours in the saddle can get a bit boring. I get a nice long chat about 1 in 5 times I'm out on the geared bike.

Nope, I know the frame of that one. This was a deep metallic blue and the frame was all fine tubes (not the deep section that rizla has), more like a Fuji track.

Waving to each other is so gay (hi there big guy, what are yo doing later????) Fixeds are flying out the door of every cycling shop and mainstream firms can't get them quick enough from Taiwan, for all you little students from Bearsden to blow your student grants on, and kids staying with mom begging for early christmas presents. I'll give it a year and you will all be hanging them up in your garage because they are sooo uncool! What will it be next?

I and many others on here have ridden fixed gear (on and off for me) for some time. I haven't hung mine up for any length of time for the last fifteen years....why should next year be different?

All road cyclists acknowledge each other whilst on a ride - I don't see why it should be any different if you have one gear or 27......

Maybe you should come out on a Tuesday and meet some of us. Most of us are not your (and I mean your) idea of what we are and, more importantly we're all cyclists, not fashion wankers.
