after weeks of cutting about on my very old geared bike, i quite fancy a road bike, ive seen that the specialized allez 2010 has very good reviews, as this will be my first road bike , it looks pretty good, and doesnt cost a fortune. has anyone here had experience with the allez before?
its a decent bike. how much are you looking to spend?
erm probs around the £500 mark. i think ill go up to dales at one point there pretty good on specialized bikes. and they do a 12 month payment with 0% apr if its over 500 :)
if you can do a ride to work bike through your employers (if you have any).. you'll get a bike for £1000 and the monthly payments will be exactly the same for a year. You also don't need to go through credit checks etc.
The Allez is good bike for the money though
It's a pretty good bike - my flatmate has just bought one on the C2W scheme. (He did go against all my advice though!)
yeh im a student at glasgow uni, and work part time in mcds so i dont think the C2W scheme is an option haha. it looks pretty good and just about the right price but ill go and have a closer look at somepoint

However you then need to buy the bike at the end of the agreed term.
but after the 12months.. the payments will have paid the bike off.
£1000 bike at 12 monthly payments of £48.94 will pay the total balance off. As its a tax-break you save around 40%.. infact the total amount payable is £587.23.
a £500 bike is 12 payments of £24.47 and you'll end up only paying £293.61.
Evans has a decent amount of info on the scheme @ http://www.evanscycles.com/ride2work
The official website is http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/

Quite often it's a nominal fee - the company I work for charge exactly £1.
if you leave work before the period is over.. you'll have to pay the remainder.
You also don't own the bike as well so you need to buy it back at the end somehow.
its very vague about buying it back and shows no guidance
you agree that with your employer before you purchase.
I bought my road bike from my employer for £20 which is quite a lot if you compare it some prices of a £1...
My mate is selling a hardly used 2008 allez elite for around £500.
£800 when new.
Carbon rear end - mix of Tiagra and 105 running gear.
It's a 56 or maybe a 58 - canny quite remember.
I can vouch for these bikes as I have the exact same model and it's excellent - I won't be selling mine any time soon!
EDIT - think this year's allez elite is a grand and isn't quite as well specc'ed (so I've heard but don't take my word for it)
Think the allez have been downgraded as in you used to get Sora and Tiagra gear on them but it's now Shimano 2300 or summat like that
