I am 4-5 months into my second chain on my Fuji. KMC bog standard fitted by Willy Bain. pretty well maintained.
The chain seems to be getting longer and longer, after 3-4 days it is slack again. The chain tugs are getting to the end of their travel. I know i need to get a new chain (and chainring), but I was wanting to wait until the salt is off the roads before getting another chain.
Willy showed me a strong KMC chain for 20 quid that he said a lot of the couriers are using.
Any suggestions for cheap but strong replacements? ( Chainring is stock FSA vero 48 T that came with the bike)
This is apparently the strongest track chain you can get. It's very hard and people recommend it when others ask about a chain that wont wear. I use a DID Racing Pro which is a very nice chain and hasn't stretched at all really. I've got a KMC Z510 waiting to go on the bike which only costs £6 from ribble and is probably similar to the one you've had for the last while. I've heard it's not bad though.
As for a replacement chainring. You want a 130BCD Gebhardt chainring. Slap it on the inside of the spider to get the same chain line that you've currently got with the "Mad Dished FSA Chainring" Get a Gebhardt chainring from velosolo or Wheelcraft.
I can't say I've every really felt like I had chain stretch with a KMC510HX. But then I'm not a skiddykiddy
rusty , that chainring will cost 30 quid plus P+P. looks good.
in terms of chains I am probably better buying cheap KMC510 chain and replacing frequently as the bike is out inthe worst weather, and I am not as fastidious at cleaning as some of you guys clearly are
what about that stronglight mygal chainset for 50 quid from on-one.
would it give me a straight chainline?
