I've got the whole weekend off, so I'm up for something fixed, but my gears are still out of action.

I was planning to do an extended version of The Glen on fixed, if anyone fancies that; at least 30 miles, pushable to 50-ish if we fancy it?

i did that about 2 months ago. Its a good day out. My advice, take a disposable bbq and some sausages/burgers.. sit on the North Beach and have a mini bbq for lunch!

I did it about 2 months ago too. I'm tempted by your disposable BBQ idea. Might be a nice surprise. Any ideas of what I could cook?

Sounds like that might be a winner although I'm going to see if there's anything I can rustle up today out of one of my many BBQ cook books.

"Round the Glen" = Milngavie, Torance, Lenoxtown and Strathblane circular route, usually done in that direction but can be done the other way.

ah.. i've done that in reverse a few times. Not a big fan of the road from Torrance to Milngavie though.

Anyone ever come back into town from Torrance? Through bishopbriggs?

It could be a massive loop if you start out from town, head out to Milngavie, loop round lennoxtown and back in through bishopbriggs?

My route would be Balmore Road out towards Bearsden/Milngavie, then swing right towards Torrance but carry on to Kirkintilloch, then up to Milton Of Campsie, back along the way through Lennoxtown to Strathblane. Then you can either head back into Glasgow past Mugdoch which makes it about 30 miles total, or we can push on past the Dumgoyne Distillery, past the turn off to Killearn, till you get to a point, just past a wee garden centre where you turn left up a smaller road which takes you over to the A809, then along that back into Milngavie/Bearsden. That extension would make it maybe 45-50 miles, I'm not sure.

Does that make sense? Sound appealing? How about a 10am start in town? Fixed.

I'm more than happy to lead the way informally for a wee group ride, though I'm sure plenty will know the way themselves as well.

I might be up for it. Either that or I'll go on the VC Glasgow South Sunday ride. This all rests on me getting my chain through the post from ribble tomorrow. If not, there's no geared riding for me I'm afraid. It also requires me to be able to set up my gears correctly but I'm fairly confident that the Park website will help me out there.

It doesn't look like I'll be out this weekend because I accidentally used the wrong post code on my ribble order. It'll need to get hand sorted so will take a few more days.

Also, the Park guides on setting up gears is pretty good for setting up gears. I'm pretty sure it will be easier than my iLinks and SRAM situation. Feeding the gear cables through the shifters was a nightmare.

Aye well I'm doing a solo ride tomorrow as my parents are down from Aberdeen and arriving about mid day. So I'm only doing about 40 miles to see where my fitness is at the moment. The social ride appeals for the slowness.
