Glasgow Fixed Gear & Single-speed Easter Weekender
Friday 10th - Sunday 13th April 2009
We (glasgowfgss.com) are proud to announce a weekend of cycling events in Glasgow for dérailleur-less riders. We've got 4 main events (see flyer above), there's a £2 entry fee for the 3 competitive events and hopefully they'll be enough cash left over for booze and food on the Sunday.
We have an amazing box of prizes worth over £200 so far thanks to generous donations from Velo Solo, Urban Hunter, Bagaboo, Gear, Willy Bain, Billy Bilsland..
For those of you travelling from out of town there are a couches/floors available (post below if you can offer a berth or need one) and there's also the eurohostel in town.
All of the events start from George Square in the city centre.
Any questions, enquiries about rules or specifics etc please post them below.
****update****
Friday's sprints and Saturday's Clockwork Orange ride will now meet at 8pm instead of 9pm
Let me get this started then
1. Rabsda (all events) (might not be able to enter them if i have to marshal it though)
I am so annoyed I'm going to miss all this. grr: everything, grr.
It looks like it's going to be a great weekend full of all the things I love.
1. rabsda (all events)
2. rusty (all events)

2. rusty (all events)
3. euan (sprints+hillclimb)
will there be other types of wood we can BBQ off of also?
take it the ride out to loch lomond will be fixed?
have you posted this on edinburgh fixed gear?
I'll try to get the weekend off work, but even if not then I can do the evening events, so for now...

2. rusty (all events)
3. euan (sprints+hillclimb)
4. krakow (sprints + clockwork orange run)
P.S. great work rabsda - kudos for getting this together so swiftly. I like the sound of the prize haul too.
conn artist:will there be other types of wood we can BBQ off of also?
I don't get it. What does that mean?
conn artist:take it the ride out to loch lomond will be fixed?
Yes. It's a flat route, along a canal.

There is a typo in the flyer. the flyer indicates there will be a BBQ on the 'beech' which is a type of wood/tree. rabsda surely means 'beach' of the sandy or pebbley kind.
i will be up for the ride out to loch lomond and would be up for helping out a bit if i dont have too much uni work to do. not to sure about all*ycats just yet or sprints for that matter. i'm still not entirely confident with the fixed or with my bikes skills yet after breaking my arm last year my confidence has taken a major knock. in other words i need to HTFU.
I do love me some cyan.
It's a while away yet so you've plenty of time to get to grips with riding fixed. and yeah. HTFU!
Sounds brilliant, and the flyer looks great. I'm like conn artist, a wee bit trepidatious about the sprints/all*ycats, but who knows, by then I might not be. I'd love to do the loch lomond anyway, and my bike should be sorted by then. Yay.

we can be wimps together plurabelle. i will need to practice hard for the next month as it would be like a lamb to the slaughter going up against some of the more experianced riders.
Me too, me too....cool, then.
I've been trying to learn to track stand for the sprints and hill climb and not really getting it. Though I seem to be picking up no handed seat trackstands slowly.
Rememeber. You can come along and not compete. If you don't want to do the sprints there will still be lots of banter.
I'm not really going to compete in the all*y cat. I might just choose a station and take pictures. Or ride it in a more sedate (legal) manner.
This sounds Awesome, will try to get the weekend off work, if not I'll deffinately be there in the evening drinking far too much! on the other hand i might be a away sailing, we shall se what happens
Sounds awesome! Hope to take part, having a bit of bicycle bother.
it's not about the winning, it's about having a laugh and representing

here's some photos to get you ready for the hill climb:

My knees feel weak at the sight of it all.
I might get some of this to help with my training:

i'd employ one of these:

far more motivational i'd say.

By the way I made it up all the hills bar one on 46x15 so it's doable. It's not a race anyway so it's going to be one at a time up each hill if you have to get off then it's not the end of the world

I went up Montrose Street today. I don't know if it's one of the hills but it's pretty easy. Richmond street isn't that much steeper I don't think.
Something like this could make an interesting addition to the sprints on the Friday night (replace the rollers with a road). Perhaps this could be an extra-curricular activity.

I'm going to try and print some posters off today as well
Bawz. I'm in Millport that weekend.
Dunno how much I'd have been up for anyway, being both old and new at the same time.
(old geezer, new FG rider). Could have marshalled a czek point.
Would it be cool to have clockwork orange spoke cards to give out to participants? Have some ideas for making one but not if there's no interest...
aye spoke cairds would be cool, go for it. Should be quite easy considering the underground map is so round and so are lots of things on bikes
http://www.houseofpistard.com/2009/03/courier-stuff-and-fakenger-stuff.html
The Glasgow Couriers used to easily kick London's arse when it came to putting on good events but recently, for various reasons, that's all dried up. So it's good to see there's people around to fill the void.
That's quite good that they put that up there. Hopefully that'll help out with getting working couriers out for the festivities. There's a boat-load of prizes that I'm sure no-one would want to miss out on anyway.
I'm planning out my route for Saturday evening. It's going to be mental riding my route through the city centre.
i've got my route sorted as well.
(Start/Finish is blythswood square btw)
The dash to my chosen first stop is quite inspired I think.
I know the route I would take too but I'm not competing. I'll probably be at a couple of stops to take pictures but nothing beyond that. Myself and George not on the forum are marshalling, but we might need another body.
We'll need someone at Blytheswood Square to identify the first person back with a complete manifest.
That is correct.
