Glasgow Fixed Gear & Single-speed Easter Weekender
    Friday 10th - Sunday 13th April 2009

We (glasgowfgss.com) are proud to announce a weekend of cycling events in Glasgow for dérailleur-less riders. We've got 4 main events (see flyer above), there's a £2 entry fee for the 3 competitive events and hopefully they'll be enough cash left over for booze and food on the Sunday.

We have an amazing box of prizes worth over £200 so far thanks to generous donations from Velo Solo, Urban Hunter, Bagaboo, Gear, Willy Bain, Billy Bilsland..

For those of you travelling from out of town there are a couches/floors available (post below if you can offer a berth or need one) and there's also the eurohostel in town.

All of the events start from George Square in the city centre.

Any questions, enquiries about rules or specifics etc please post them below.

    ****update****
Friday's sprints and Saturday's Clockwork Orange ride will now meet at 8pm instead of 9pm

Yes. It's a flat route, along a canal.

There is a typo in the flyer. the flyer indicates there will be a BBQ on the 'beech' which is a type of wood/tree. rabsda surely means 'beach' of the sandy or pebbley kind.

i will be up for the ride out to loch lomond and would be up for helping out a bit if i dont have too much uni work to do. not to sure about all*ycats just yet or sprints for that matter. i'm still not entirely confident with the fixed or with my bikes skills yet after breaking my arm last year my confidence has taken a major knock. in other words i need to HTFU.

Sounds brilliant, and the flyer looks great. I'm like conn artist, a wee bit trepidatious about the sprints/all*ycats, but who knows, by then I might not be. I'd love to do the loch lomond anyway, and my bike should be sorted by then. Yay.

we can be wimps together plurabelle. i will need to practice hard for the next month as it would be like a lamb to the slaughter going up against some of the more experianced riders.

I'm not really going to compete in the all*y cat. I might just choose a station and take pictures. Or ride it in a more sedate (legal) manner.

By the way I made it up all the hills bar one on 46x15 so it's doable. It's not a race anyway so it's going to be one at a time up each hill if you have to get off then it's not the end of the world

I went up Montrose Street today. I don't know if it's one of the hills but it's pretty easy. Richmond street isn't that much steeper I don't think.

Something like this could make an interesting addition to the sprints on the Friday night (replace the rollers with a road). Perhaps this could be an extra-curricular activity.

The Glasgow Couriers used to easily kick London's arse when it came to putting on good events but recently, for various reasons, that's all dried up. So it's good to see there's people around to fill the void.
